Toilet that keeps running into the bowl

A constant trickle into the bowl almost always comes from one of three things:

1. The flush valve seal at the bottom of the cistern is worn or scaled up, so water runs through all the time.
2. The fill valve no longer shuts off, so the cistern overflows into the overflow pipe.
3. The dual-flush mechanism sticks down or goes out of adjustment.

On a wall-hung toilet, everything is done through the hatch behind the flush plate, without breaking the boxing. The plumber repairs the faulty part, or replaces the whole mechanism on an older model.

Dripping tap: repair or replace?

A dripping mixer tap usually has a worn cartridge, which can be replaced if the part is still made. An old, scaled-up tap or one whose body leaks is replaced. The plumber gives you both options with their prices.

Prices in Paris

Flush mechanism repair: €118 to €185 excl. VAT, cistern €480 excl. VAT. Mixer tap supplied and fitted: €220 to €265 excl. VAT, or €110 excl. VAT for fitting only if you supply the tap. Leak repair under a sink or basin: €115 to €155 excl. VAT. The price is given before any work (see our prices).

How the visit works

1. Send a photo of the tap, toilet or mechanism, or give us a call.
2. We give you the price and a slot, urgently if the water will not turn off.
3. The plumber turns off the water, takes things apart and finds the faulty part.
4. It is repaired or replaced, then checked for leaks and flow.
5. You can keep the old part if you like, and you get a clear invoice.

Taps and toilets in Paris buildings

1. Old shut-off valves, often seized: closing them can make them leak. We replace them where needed so you can turn off your own water in an emergency.
2. No private stop valve in some older buildings: the water is cut on the shared riser, with the gardien (caretaker). Let them know before the visit.
3. Lead pipes and non-standard fittings: our plumbers are used to connecting new fittings to these installations (lead and cast iron pipes in Paris).
4. Very small bathrooms and toilets, sometimes with macerator toilets in former maids' rooms: we choose fittings that fit and stay accessible.

Who pays for the repair?

In a rented flat, small wear-and-tear repairs (a seal, a flush mechanism, a cartridge) are usually the tenant's, and replacing worn-out equipment the landlord's. Check your lease; the plumber's detailed invoice states the cause.
